  • National Alliance for Family Court Justice  

    The National Alliance For Family Court Justice (NAFCJ), founded in 1993 by Elisabeth Richards of Annandale, Virginia, is an international group of volunteers dedicated to addressing system failure in the courts and social services resulting in retaliation against non-offending parents who complain of family abuse, especially mothers of children who disclose sexual abuse. The NAFCJ web site is an excellent site for information on family courts, fathers’ rights groups, and news articles and television shows regarding custody and domestic violence.

    Justice at Stake is a nationwide grouping of political organizations focused on financial equity and combatting "special interests" in the courts at national, state and local levels. Includes news listings by state regarding legal issues.

  • Public Justice Center's Civil Gideon Project  

    This link summarizes one of the many worthy efforts of the Baltimore-based Public Justice Center, the “Civil Gideon” project which seeks to establish a constitutional right to an attorney in a civil matter. The organization wishes to ensure that individuals who cannot afford an attorney in civil disputes including child custody will be appointed counsel. Although individual requests for representation or advice are not handled through the website or email, the Center’s staff can be contacted by phone or mail.

  • Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law  

    This is the website for the Brennan Center For Justice at New York University School of Law. Among its programs is the Access To Justice Project which works to ensure that low income individuals and families can obtain legal representation. The Project’s services include counseling, training, direct legal representation, public education, research, organizing and legislative advocacy. The site provides links to resources, publications, analyses of current issues, and op-eds.

  • University of Washington School of Law Library - Family Law Resources  

    This site is offered by the University of Washington School of Law and lists a number of books and resources for lay persons navigating the family court system. Topics include divorce, custody, and family court procedure in the State of Washington.

  • Wellesley College Centers for Women  

    The Wellesley College Centers for Women has posted reports and other information produced by its Battered Women's Testimony Project, focusing on battered mothers' fight to service the family court system and, in particular, documenting the human rights violations they suffer when they fight against their abusers for custody of their children. The research addresses practices of the Massachusetts family courts and victims' experiences in those courts, but the findings could be replicated in the family courts of many other states.

    Legal Momentum, an organization advancing the rights of women and girls through law and public policy, has created several useful publications available for download on their website including:

    • Divorce: A Guide for Women

      Designed to acquaint women considering a divorce with general information about divorce and the law. Provides women, regardless of circumstances surrounding their divorce, with knowledge and resources to help ensure that their children, health, finances and safety are secure. (2000)

      Provides information, tips and resources regarding the specifics of child custody when domestic violence is an issue, applicable state and inter-state laws, Parental Alienation Syndrome, and the impact domestic violence has on children. (2006)

    • Guide to Court Watching in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Cases

      Provides information and resources about developing a court-watch program for domestic violence and/or rape and sexual assault cases in your community. This information can also help individuals interested in establishing a court-watch program for any issue. (2006)

    • Filing a Judicial Complaint in State Courts: An Overview

      An introduction to the judicial complaint process, which may be used when an individual believes that a judge presiding over her/his case acted inappropriately. (2002)

  • California NOW's Family Law Page  

    The website of California NOW is a highly recommended site for NOW members and family law litigants and activists. CA NOW recognized early the crisis in the family courts—inequitable rulings on divorce, custody and child support—and formed a statewide Family Law Task Force to investigate and reform the system. This site presents NOW's 2002 Family Court Report, news, articles, books, legislative success and information useful for women regarding gender bias and current trends in the courts nationwide. CA NOW's grassroots strategy is to create a clearinghouse for all information that will support women and children getting justice in the family court system.

  • California Protective Parents Association  

    The Mission of the California Protective Parents Association is to protect children from incest and family violence through research, education and advocacy. Especially useful are their resources and research links.

  • Michigan Court Forms  

    This is link all the Court forms, including Friend of the Court Forms. Most custody and support order issues are sent directly to the friend of the court. This link will direct you to all the FOC Forms regarding support orders, custody, show causes, complaints forms, income withholding etc.

  • Michigan State Court Administration Office  

    Michigan State Court Administration Office offers information and direction to state court forms. Information on the Supreme court Appeals court and state courts. Self help area, resources section with info on court rules, fees, fines, costs, etc.
