The NOW Foundation and the American Association of People with Disabilities are jointly sponsoring a "Women with Disabilities and Allies Forum" to foster the discussion among and to bring together women living with disabilities, disability rights activists, abortion rights activists, other feminists, and supportive allies from across the country to discuss ableism, feminism, and other issues of mutual concern. Topics include:

  • The State of Civil Rights in the Women's and the Disability Movements
  • Abortion, Reproductive Rights, and Custody Issues
  • Health Care and Care Giving
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Emerging Leaders in the Women's and Disability Rights Movement
  • Violence Against Women
  • Aging and Disability
  • Lesbians with Disabilities
  • Body Image

How You Can Participate

  • Register and check back here for more information
  • Volunteer to be a personal assistant (reader, food helper, etc.). Contact womenwithdisabilities@yahoo.com. You can also volunteer on the registration form.
  • Make a donation online to the NOW Foundation to financially assist others to participate and support the Forum. You can also mail a donation in to NOW / AAPD Disability Forum, NOW Foundation, 733 15th St NW, Suite 215, Washington, DC 20005. You will need to note that your donation is for the "NOW AAPD Forum" in Memo line or attached note.
  • Print and distribute a PDF version of this page for use as a flyer.

In consideration of those with allergies and respiratory problems, the Women with Disabilities & Allies Forum is a scent free" event. Participants are asked to use unscented products in lieu of scented toiletries and detergents, and to refrain from wearing perfumes and colognes.
